On a perfect sunny winter day (a rare occurrence this year), my husband and I on the way back from our first visit to the Bodhivana Monastery in East Warburton, stumbled upon this lovely tea shop when we stopped by in Warburton to check out the local country shops.
Stepping into the Old Tea Shop is like stepping into an era gone by. There is an aura of warmth and coziness in this shop that almost resembles the feeling you get when you are in your grandmother’s lounge with a warm cuppa. I’m not exactly sure what it is…it could be the deco….old fashioned jars filled with tea, the quilt covered cushions on the chairs, the floral tea cups, the array of china….but I think there is something else… The details in the deco most of which are for sale show that a lot of attention, care and love has gone into this shop… I think this may be an important part of why The Old Tea Shop has made a strong impression on me.
There are more than 200 types of teas to either take home or have it at the shop. The types of teas are so varied that it is quite a challenge to decide what to have! It’s a good thing there is a little sample jar to smell and we found the owner very pleasant and helpful. We had a pot of Ceylon Lover’s Leap (we were told it was a popular choice) and I just had to order the gem scones which to my delight are baked when ordered! The fresh scones came with cream and jam of course and was the perfect compliment to the warm pot of tea! If you are not into scones, they do have homemade cookies and all their baked good are wheat and gluten free which is definitely an extra plus.
We will certainly be dropping by again when we are in the area and I suggest you drop by too if you are ever in the are!
